2023 AAPI Month Spotlight: Joe Keum

Joe KeumHow long have you been a member of NACE? What drew you to NACE?
2 years. I was an ILEA board member and the Denver ILEA chapter was closed during Covid. So moving to NACE was natural progression for me.

What do you hope to see for the Asian community in events, in the coming years?
I hope to see leaders from our community as well as creativity in the event space with Asian flavors (not stereo typical items, but modern and stylish culture).

What does AAPI Month mean to you?
The opportunity for fellow Asian professionals to connect nationally. There are high Asian populations in certain parts of the country so connecting on a national level is very helpful for me.

What Asian figure inspires you and why?
An Asian figure that inspires me is King Sejong in Chosun Kingdom in Korea. Not only was he a great king, but he also invented Hangul (the Korean alphabet) and was well versed in science & culture. He inspires me because he brought so much pride and culture to Korean people.

What is one activity or dish from your Asian culture you think everybody should try?
Kimchee, no explanation needed.
