With Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day as the three top days for proposals, we are in the season of sparkly rings, surprise celebrations…and email inquiries. Many couples get right into the business of planning their wedding once the excitement of the engagement starts to wear off. In fact, some were likely dreaming up plans before a ring was even in the picture.

Either way, this is a busy time for event professionals and it’s best to get your head in the sales game now to make the most of the year or two ahead. With all of the engagement buzz around us, here are a few ways you can ensure that you are primed and ready to bring in new leads.

Update your website

Before the calls and emails come in, you can rest assured that your website will be the first place that prospective clients land. It’s likely the biggest factor that will bridge their interest in you with their desire to reach out and connect. Ensure that your website is both logical and aesthetically pleasing; it should be easy and enjoyable to use. Be sure to include your contact information clearly, as well as any other supporting information like testimonials, press mentions, awards, and blog posts.

Revisit your social media strategy

The beginning of the year is a great time to evaluate, adjust, and ramp up your social media strategy, as prospective clients are usually checking out what you’re sharing for a visual idea of what it would be like to work with you. Take some time to consider the topics that would most interest newly engaged couples. Perhaps you write up a post about budgeting for a wedding, with an accompanying blog that draws followers to your website. Or maybe you can explore the top considerations when choosing a venue. The idea is to target them early in the process so you can win them over by the time they’re ready to book.

Get up to speed on trends

Every year welcomes new trends and you should fully expect newly engaged couples to be all over Pinterest looking for the latest and greatest design choices. It’s important that you are a part of this conversation, so make sure you are doing your research to be aware of what today’s couples are seeking. Write about these trends on your blog and share them to Instagram and Pinterest to be front-and-center where couples are looking.

Check-in with your client experience

More than ever, couples are increasingly seeking a fully custom client experience; they want to feel as if they are your only client, even if that’s far from the truth. Take some time to review your current client experience, from initial intake to the final farewell. Consider ways to make it extra special for each of your clients, whether it’s a unique welcome gift or a day-of surprise. The more effort you put into personalizing each client’s experience with you, the more they’ll give raving reviews to anyone who asks.
