More than just a photo: It’s an entire Marketing Strategy!

Have you caught yourself doing a ‘digital grace’ before eating a meal?  Well, you’re not alone.  According to a recent study by consumer intelligence firm Maru/Matchbox, 69% of millennials take a photo or video of their food before eating, and 30% actively avoid restaurants if their Instagram presence is weak.

And it’s not just millennials, consumers as a whole are becoming more visually savvy as we spend an increasing amount of time online reshaping how we think and act.

By no accident, Instagram has fundamentally even changed the foods we eat.  Could you have imagined ten years ago standing in line to get your hands on some Cronuts, ‘freak shakes,’ or unicorn colored coffee?  Yet, here we are eating donuts off of walls and drinking ‘Sip your Selfie’ printed cocktails…my personal favorite 😉

Smart restaurateurs are even jumping on board creating entire menus with Instagram worthy dishes and redesigning restaurants with lighter, brighter photography friendly tables.

So how does this impact your bottom line?

Our catering and event businesses don’t exist in an alternate universe to the brands flooding feeds with beautiful content.  We have to conscientiously work towards elevating our visual brand because potential clients aren’t just comparing you to the other caterers in town, they’re comparing you against every mouth-watering food photo they’ve ever seen.

The irony is that most of us know this somewhere deep in our core.  But let’s face it, getting your hands on professional photos after an event can be a pain in the patoot much less getting decent photos out of your team.  Trust me, I feel your pain.

The good news!?  You have an amazing resource right in your pocket…your smartphone!

In my session for the 2019 Nace Experience Conference, I’m going to teach you all the tips, tricks, and techniques needed to help you become phoneographer rockstars!

You’ll also walk away with a visual marketing plan complete with a hashtag and SEO image strategy so that you can get the maximum ROI from your new-and-improved photos.

The best part is that this session is for everyone and will immediately change how you visually communicate your USP’s.  A photo really is worth a thousand words, which can translate to thousands of dollars…and who wouldn’t want that!?

I’ll see you in Cincy at #NACEEXP19!

  1. Good post, Jennifer. Businesses are really smart by designing their lighting etc for social media posts. That is an investment in letting the consumers advertise for you!
