Member Spotlight: Erin Dennis

Q&A with NACE Member Erin Dennis, Sales and Event Coordinator with Hilton. If you are interested in being featured, please contact membership@nace.net.

NACE: How did you first get involved with NACE?

Erin: I attended the very first informational meeting about forming a NACE Chapter in Charlotte in 1995 and I joined right away and became part of the hospitality committee.

NACE: How long have you been with Hilton, what is your role?

Erin: I am the Sales &  Events Coordinator at the Hampton Inn & Suites SouthPark at Phillips Place. I book all of our group rooms, meetings & events.  I have been working here for 6 years and I absolutely love our team & my job!

NACE: What has your career path looked like? What brought you to your current position?

Erin: I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. I worked part-time in the hospitality industry and taught at CPCC from 2001-2012 to spend more time at home with my kids. But I kept my NACE membership active and stayed involved.  In 2012 I decided to go back to work full-time. So, I called Jessica Helms who I knew from serving on the NACE board together. She asked me to come the next day to interview with the team and I was offered the job.

NACE: What might NACE members be surprised to learn about you?

Erin: I dropped my Public Speaking class in college 3 times. And now I’m a college instructor and public speaker.

NACE: What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?

Erin: Managing my time. I am pulled in so many different directions during the day, it’s hard to get anything done.

NACE: What is your favorite part of the catering and events industry?

Erin: Hands down – the people. I have so many wonderful friends and colleagues in this industry. I just love learning about everyone’s dreams and aspirations and how they have grown in their career and hearing their funny hospitality stories.

NACE: If you could give one piece of advice to those entering the industry, what would it be?

Erin: Take every opportunity to educate yourself in the industry. Take classes, work a 2nd job, have a mentor, join NACE and attend all meetings and conferences and build your network of industry associates to call on when needed for advice or guidance.

NACE: Do you have a favorite NACE memory?

Erin: There are way too many amazing memories over the last 24 years involving NACE events and people that  I can’t name just one.
