Biographical Statement
Lawrence Leonard, CAE, CMP
Lawrence Leonard is a seasoned association executive with a passion for associations and events and for bringing an entrepreneurial spirit and innovation to not-for-profit organizations.  With nearly 25 years of experience, Lawrence has developed a deep understanding of the power of associations and the dynamic and complex events profession.
His diverse experience in association management includes work in the events, construction, technology manufacturing and education sectors, with consulting experience for many others.  Prior to joining NACE, Lawrence served as Executive Director of Quality Service Contractors, an enhanced service group of the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors National Association, where he led strategy and operations for programs that helped business owners develop their skills and knowledge, expand their professional networks, share resources and improve their business operations.
He has an extensive background in the events industry, as a meeting planner and trade show manager.  He was previously the Chief Operating Officer for the Events Industry Council, an umbrella group of more than 32 trade and professional organizations in the meetings, conventions, exhibitions and events industry, including NACE.  In this 
role, he had oversight of operations and programs that promoted professionalism, collaboration, education, and best practices. This included expanding and enhancing the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), producing research and education on emerging trends and issues, and developing sustainability standards for events.
Lawrence is a member of American Society of Association Executives and has served as a member of ASAE’s Meetings and Expositions Section Council.  He has been recognized as a Principal Reviewer for the Event Industry Council Manual, 9th Edition, as a Changemaker Award Winner by MeetingsNet Media, and as a CMP 30th Anniversary Influencer Nominee.
Lawrence is a graduate 
from Virginia Tech, and holds both the Certified Association Executive (CAE) and Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) credentials. Lawrence and his partner Nathaniel reside in Washington, DC.  In his spare time Lawrence enjoys travel, cooking, entertaining, craft beer and all things tech.
