Giving Thanks

As we approach Thanksgiving Day and our national moment of shared reflection, and as my year as your NACE National President approaches its conclusion, I would like to share what I am thankful for in 2021.

First, I am thankful to the members and supporters who make NACE the essential resource and vibrant community that it is. Unlike other associations where you pay a fee and become a number in a database, NACE is a closely-knit community unlike any other association I have been part of. Over the years I have met people who have become more than business connections, or professional colleagues…they have become friends and family with whom I have forged deep bonds that have sustained me over the past two years and will continue to do so in the future.

I am thankful for, and awed by, the many volunteer leaders who lead, build, and nurture our vital chapter network. I hope to see many of you at the Evolve conference this coming January. Evolve is an important event where leaders help leaders gain practical knowledge and skills for running and leading a successful chapter. At this moment in time it is a vital source of information, energy, and inspiration for the leaders who make NACE happen.

I am also thankful for our ongoing partnership with the Foundation of NACE. As both NACE and the Foundation continue to evolve and adapt, our shared commitment to advance and support the catering and events profession remains strong and important to the future of our community. Likewise, I am thankful for my fellow National Board members for their leadership, foresight, and dedication to NACE.

I would also like to express my thanks for the many volunteers who power our national committees. These volunteers provide NACE with priceless insight and information, and the energy they put into volunteer projects makes NACE a stronger and more vibrant community. I would like to give special thanks to our 2021 national committee chairs: Robin Denny, CPCE, CERP, MBA, Certification Committee Chair; Lynn Graham, Education Committee Chair;  Aleya Harris, CPCE, Marketing and Technology Committee Chair and Black Caucus Chair; Justen Hix, CPCE, Chapter Leaders Council Chair; Kay Kolbo, Business Development Committee Chair; Dawn Peterson, CPCE, Membership Committee Chair; Doug Quattrini, CPCE, Nominations and Elections Committee Chair; Adam Rineer, CPCE, CMP, Conference Advisory Committee Chair; and Leigh Tidwell, CSEP, Awards Committee Chair. I am also thankful for Michelle Stansfield, CPCE for leading the Pathways to Leadership Task Force and Megan Estrada for leading our Chapter Local Advocacy Support Team.

Our call for committee volunteers for 2022 is currently open. If you would like to get involved and volunteer for a national committee, please complete the online form by December 1.

Wherever you may find yourself this Thanksgiving, large gathering or small, at home or once again enjoying the freedom of travel, I send you my thanks, my gratitude and my NACE love.
