CPCE Spotlight: Meagan Cartmill, CPCE

Our CPCE Spotlight is where professionals share their motivation behind earning the Certified Professional in Catering and Events (CPCE). This month we are featuring Meagan Cartmill, CPCE, Manager | Catering & Conference Management for The Venetian | The Palazzo | Sands Expo.

If you are interested in being featured, please contact cpce@nace.net.

Q. How did you first learn about the CPCE program?

A. I learned about this program through my colleagues at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. Our directors encourage us to participate in continued education, including industry certifications.

Q. What or who encouraged you to consider applying?

A. It is strongly encouraged for us as Catering & Conference Managers to carry industry certifications including but not limited to CPCE. The opportunity to further my career is a great motivator.

Q. Please provide some background on your current position and company. How long have you been there, what is your role?

A. I am currently employed by The Venetian Resort Las Vegas as a Catering & Conference Manager, Level II. The Venetian Resort campus encompasses Sands Expo and in total, we have 2.25 million square feet of traditional meeting space where we execute corporate programs ranging from 10 to 15,000+ attendees. In my role, I am responsible for both the catering and room set needs of my clients.

Q. Do you believe CPCE certification helped you achieve your current position?

A. No, actually the opposite. My current position helped me strive for my CPCE certification!

Q. Any tips for future applicants of CPCE?

A. There is a lot of material to absorb for the exam. Every applicant already knows most of the information since it is part of what we do from day to day, but the exam offers us a good refresher on the details. For studying, I was most successful with flashcards.

Q. Do you have any stories to share about how the CPCE letters behind your name have helped express to colleagues, clients, employers, or others your knowledge and experience in the catering and events industry?

A. I have had my CPCE for about a year now. Since adding the initials to my name at work, I have had multiple clients commend me on my achievements and tell me that it offers them a level of comfort. I have found that when clients see they are working with someone who is dedicated to their job and carries industry certifications, it helps put them at ease, knowing their needs and wants will be met with perfection and executed correctly.

Q. Do you have a favorite CPCE memory?

A. This is easy – the CPCE Breakfast at the 2019 NACE Experience Conference. This breakfast offered me a great opportunity to network with my fellow CPCEs.

Q. What is your favorite part of the catering and events industry?

A. I honestly love it all. No day is the same with what we do and I love the constant change, new challenges, and working with clients to see their events come to reality!

Get to know Meagan a bit more:

Meagan was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has been at The Venetian Resort since 2013, where she started as a front desk agent and quickly found her passion for group business. Meagan transitioned from front desk to hotel group services, and then catering and conference management, where she has found her home for the long haul. In her free time, Meagan enjoys the finer things in life – travel, food, and a good night out with her friends and family. When with friends, one of Meagan’s favorite past times is wine tasting, game nights and a good cheese board…brie all the way!
