CPCE Spotlight: London Lecy, CPCE

Our CPCE Spotlight is where professionals share their motivation behind earning the Certified Professional in Catering and Events (CPCE). This month we are featuring London Lecy, CPCE, Catering and Convention Services Manager at Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Q. Please provide some background on your current position and organization, as well as your path to getting there.

A: I am a graduate of the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina with a major in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Going through school in a tourist town really piqued my interest in the hospitality sector. I began my career as an intern for a wedding planning company and fell in love. I worked for this company during and a bit after college. I wanted to see what the corporate side of event planning had to offer and eventually landed a job in Event Services at a convention center in Atlanta, Georgia. I truly loved this job, but in 2018 I made the move to Las Vegas to be closer to my fiancé, Will. I began working as a Catering and Convention Services Manager at Green Valley Ranch!

Q: How has CPCE certification helped your career to date?

A: When COVID hit, I was definitely concerned with the potential of getting laid off from my position. I feel like having the extra power of the CPCE credentials behind my name definitely helped me retain my position. I also feel like it gives clients the confidence to know that their event is safe in your hands.

Q: What are your professional goals for the next 5, 10, 20+ years?

A. My future goals are to keep growing professionally with the team at Green Valley Ranch and the Stations Casino brand. Long term looking toward the future, I think it would be really amazing to encompass all of my experience and to become an Event Services Director at a hotel/convention center.

Q. Did you have a mentor or a group of colleagues who encouraged you to pursue CPCE? How did their encouragement help you through the process?

A. I definitely had help throughout the process. My colleagues at Green Valley Ranch had recently taken the test and they had a lot of wise words and encouragement for me.

Q. Any tips for future applicants of CPCE?

A. Definitely study! Sometimes we think doing this job for years should prepare us for the exam, but that’s not necessarily the case. Flashcards really helped me during the studying process.

Q. What is your favorite or most memorable part of working in the catering and events industry?

The Green Valley Ranch Cleaning Crew

A. My most memorable part of working in the industry is the people I’ve met. I have met so many lifelong friends in coworkers, clients, and vendors. There is nothing that can bring you closer to someone than being in the trenches of an event together. You definitely become a family and work becomes a second home.

A: Q: Are there any other thoughts you’d like to share in the CPCE Spotlight?

A: My best piece of advice would be to just keep pushing toward your goals. If you are constantly looking to better yourself, the opportunities will come to you! Even if it’s not something you are expecting, take the chance. You never know what could come of it!

My name is London and I am a Catering and Convention Services Manager at Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas, NV. I live with my fiancé and our two wonderful fur babies, Franklin and Callie. We are currently planning our own wedding and will tie the knot on September 25, 2021, at Green Valley Ranch! When I am not at work, I enjoy laying poolside, doing puzzles, and traveling with friends.
